An elderly man walks into his kitchen. He sees a cooler on the countertop. Unsure where it has come from or whose it is, he is curious to find what is inside. Upon opening the ice box, he finds two deliciously purple plums. Without much consideration, he picks up the first plum and takes a large bite. He finishes it without thinking. He takes a notepad and the pen from his breast pocket and begins to write a note as he sinks his teeth into the second plum.

“This is just to say I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox and which you were probably saving for breakfast. Forgive me they were delicious, so sweet and so cold.”

In walks a younger man, he sees his father asleep on the large cushioned chair. He is carrying a bag of fresh fruit, lots of pre-cooked meals in containers and the day’s newspaper under his arm. Putting his gifts on the counter he comes across his esky with a note on top. He finishes reading it with a sigh. He is not getting any better, he thinks to himself. When he places the note in the bin he finds six plum stones and the original note he has left.

“Father here are some fresh plums for you, hope you enjoy them. I will be back later in the afternoon with more food for the next few days. Much Love, Steven.”

Taking a pen from his pocket he writes another.

“Father, I have put tonight’s and tomorrow’s meals in the fridge along with heating instructions and a bag of fruit. I have to go pick up the kids, didn’t want to wake you. Here’s the paper as well, I’ll see you tomorrow. Much Love, Steven.”
